We've revived a 19th Century brick mansion into a modern-day winery. We produce high-quality red, white, fruit and sparkling wines using grapes and fruits from our own vineyard. Our wine production has more than doubled this past year so we're already expanding our facilities.
Our tasting room will be open to the public daily, with no reservations required. Private wine tastings will also be available.
Buchanan House Winery is a dedicated member of The Iowa Wine Growers Association.
Over 19 acres of wine-quality grapes and fruits surround the Buchanan House.
We grow high-quality Brianna, Frontenac, Marquette and St. Pepin varietals - to name a few - blackberry currants, and apples that give our fruit wines a 'freshly picked' expression.
We're putting the finishing touches on our 1-1/2 acre Colonial Revival Garden. Visitors can stroll the traditional brick and gravel pathways to enjoy perennial plants and ornamental flowers typical of the 19th Century.
The garden will be available for wedding cermonies and receptions, accommodating up to 300 people. Call or email Mallory to plan your event.
The 16-room wood-and-brick mansion was built by Alexander Buchanan between 1883 and 1885. Alexander owned and operated a 560 acre farm in the Linn township near Mechanicsville.
In 2009 Randy and Linda Weaver saved the 125-year-old mansion and oversaw its eight-and-a-half-mile journey to a new home.
After years of hard work the Weavers are proud to reveal the revived Buchanan House to the public as the Buchanan House Winery.
